What Loadsurfer is doing about the environmentIn order to fulfill our pledge to the environment, Load Surfer has implemented several green initiatives and several others are under consideration. Please click on the links below to learn more about our current and future initiatives.
Waste Reduction and Recycling Program
Furniture includes toxic plastic that harms the environment. In fact, discarded furniture takes up a huge proportion of our landfills. In order to help combat this problem, all of our office furniture has been pre-owned, which prevents additional waste in our landfills. Not only has this policy contributed to a greener environment, but we have also saved a considerable amount of money!!!
Our office recycling program currently consists of collecting and recycling used paper, aluminum cans and cardboard. We also provide a vermicomposter that helps decomposes organic materials (food v waste) thrown out in our kitchen-office. If your municipality supports recycling, they will likely provide your office with a vermicomposter free of charge.
Kitchen-Office
We provide cutlery and dishes for the use of all employees. We also encourage our staff to bring their lunches and snacks in reusable containers. This cuts down on unnecessary waste in the form of packaging and disposable cutlery. We are also discourage the use of plastic water bottles. Although these bottles are a convenience, the do not decompose, so they will remain in landfills for many generations.
Office Plants
Believe it or not, plants do play a role in maintaining a healthy workplace. Not only are they decorative, but can also remove toxins that exist in your offices. We currently have a Dracaena Marginata and several other plants throughout our office. Not only do they brighten the workplace but they provide cleaner, fresher air to all our employees.
The University of Technology in Sydney has done studies measuring how effective office plants are in removing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in our office atmosphere. Detailed results of their findings can be found by clicking here.
Computer Systems and Printers
All computer systems are run on low energy consumption which not only conserves electricity but also lowers our costs. Computer systems and printers automatically switch to low-power sleep mode after a short period of inactivity. Overall PC power use can be monitored using a freeware program called Verdiem – Edison
We turn to green products for our printing needs. We use Rolland Enviro100 Copy by Cascades. The paper contains 100% post-consumer fiber and is processed in a chlorine-free using biogas energy. It is both EcoLogo and FSC Recycled certified. Our next step is to use refillable toners in all our printers, decreasing our waste even further.
